Kelsey Vaughan and Nicole Kurceba are both graduates of NSCAD University, in Halifax NS, which is where they met and shared studio space since 2016. Immediately a strong relationship was formed where they were able to critique and inspire one another's works. They later founded the "Coasties Collective" with five other artists from NSCAD University to encourage an environment of female artists supporting one another in their professional artistic careers. Emerging Artists Unleashed 2019

Artists in post-secondary institutions were asked to apply for exhibition and a scholarship award of $1000. Two students are awarded each year for the undergraduate level scholarship.  One Graduate Scholarship of $1000 is also awarded annually.  Applications open in September of each year with a two-month window.
