Enriching the Arts

Carney Oudendag, ASA is participating in a group show entitled, Discarded Lives: An Obession With Things at Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna, BC from August 2nd to August 30th, 2016.

Notes about the exhibition from the artist:

‘A collage & mixed media artist, I need to go beyond conventional art supplies to create. The ratio of my collected materials to time left to use these, is not in my favor! Mixed media, assemblage and use of found objects requires that I am always in ‘hunter gatherer’ mode. I also have 2 pickers who work on my behalf to collect.

Typically, I have a strong desire to integrate the various materials and objects. Often, my intent is to have materials contribute in a subtle manner. This is not the approach in this exhibit!

I have chosen very dimensional objects. Some extend beyond the borders of the canvas and are actually puncturing the canvas. This requires some problem solving to be sure of craftsmanship along with visual appeal! Bike parts have a very sculptural quality and beautiful form. The dollheads have a new life and varying personalities on this family ‘portrait wall.’
