Blanca Botero-Fuentes, Bubble Multiverse

Blanca lives and has a studio in the Longview area, west of Calgary. Born in Spain, where she spent her early childhood, she was educated in Canada. Blanca’s love of art has been lifelong. She worked with clay for several years before moving on to painting with oils. She has since taken many art workshops that have allowed her to explore various painting media and styles. Currently she works in acrylics/mixed media.

Blanca acknowledges the debt to every artist who came before her, including to her contemporaries as teachers and inspiration for the evolution of her own work. Over the years Blanca has participated in numerous group shows as well as several one person shows. Working in a series, Blanca likes to explore themes based on memory, nature and the visual translation of ideas to canvas. The artist works in whatever style suits her subject being a firm believer that artistic growth and evolution require that no stylistic constraint is a consideration, once in front of a canvas. Blanca’s work has been featured in the Huffington Post and International Artist and is currently carried by Bluerock Gallery in Black Diamond, Alberta.

Q&A with the ASA

ASA: Could you tell us about your influences?

Blanca: When I think of artistic influences on my work, the name of Paul Klee is number one. He was a great artist, with a brilliant mind. I love Kandinsky and Matisse for their color, Carr for her glorious depictions of the forest, Picasso for his daring reconstructs of reality and Joan Mitchell for her breathtaking distillation of nature.

ASA: Which body of your work would you consider most successful to date?

Blanca: Although my floral and landscape paintings prove to be commercially very successful, I find my abstract works exploring the role of memory and ideas offers the most personal satisfaction. I intend to carry on with both, as the spirit moves me.
