Winnie Ho - Extremities

Extremities, Winnie Ho

Born in Hong Kong, Winnie Ho studied fine arts at the University of Lethbridge, Alberta. Now a medical researcher at the University of Calgary, she was always interested in art. She experiments with a variety of mediums, comprised of silk screening, silk painting, acrylic and oil, Chinese watercolour, pastel, and even clay.

Her specialty is combining all the mediums she has used in the past to convey her emotions. The mixed media style has lead to many unique and stimulating works. Art is her channel to liberating the soul.

She will continue to pursue the true taste of brilliancy and lustre, a mélange of all intrinsic and extrinsic elements to redefine the essence of life.

ASA: Can you tell us about your influences?
I have to admit that Masters Zao Wou-ki and Zhang Daqian have influenced me to endorse the theme of “East meet West” which synthesis of Oriental/Occidental Art that surpasses traditional cultural boundaries. Both are undeniable modern impressionist and expressionist painters who have helped me transcribe what’s in my my mind and soul into my work.

ASA: Which body of work would you consider your most successful to date?
I would say my Body Works, my transformation from two dimensional into three dimensional art that makes me most proud. But this is still a process and still needs a long time to develop.
