Gisa Mayer, ASA was born in Bad Reichenhall, a small spa town in the Bavarian Alps. She pursued her post secondary education in Munich, Regensburg, Trento and Salzburg. Her emphasis was on Painting and Art History but also included a degree in Romance languages. After graduation she opened her studio close to her favourite city of Salzburg, in the picturesque town of Waging am See and continued to teach Art History.

In 1990 she had the chance to visit Canada for the first time and immediately fell in love with grandeur of the Canadian Rockies and the absence of human interference in wide stretches of the landscape.

Her work is represented in private and corporate collections in many countries in Europe and in Canada, the USA and Australia.

ASA: Could you tell us about your influences?

Gisa: My influences range all over the long history of painting. From Nicolas Poussin and Claude Lorrain to Italian landscape paintings of the late 18th and early 19th century and the Barbizon School, but also fairly unknown landscape painters of my native Bavaria and the

Blue Rider Group in Munich. I love to paint outdoors and beautiful landscapes inspire me to capture the movement of the clouds and the change of light. My style is influenced greatly by the baroque architecture of Bavaria, my paintings are full of long uninterrupted curves and wavy lines.

Which body of work would you consider your most successful to date?
I always hope my next series will be my most successful. One body of work that was very well received was a series Spring themed paintings shown under the title ‘Unbridled Joy’.
